Who is David Hudson?
I was born and raised in Chattanooga Tennessee where I met my bride, Ginger. We have been married for 28 years and have 3 daughters, 1 son and 1 grandchild.
We moved to Whitwell 3 years ago to escape ‘city life’ and fell in love with the Whitwell community.
It would be my honor to represent you as city commissioner.
Education & Career
I am a graduate of Ooltewah High School and Trevecca Nazarene University, where I obtained a B.A. in Business Management with a focus on Leadership and an MBA with a concentration in Data Analytics.
With 25 years of experience in the health insurance industry, I currently serve as the Director of Reporting & Analytics for a Fortune 5 company.
Why I Ran for Office
I've encountered many wonderful people, and Whitwell has become home for my family. My top priority is to give back to the community, and serving as commissioner offers a fantastic opportunity to do just that.
My campaign motto is “Respecting Yesterday, Embracing Today, and Building Tomorrow.” What do I mean by that?
Respecting Yesterday
Whitwell boasts a rich history, and it’s important to honor those who have shaped it, from the coal miners of the 1880s to the Paper Clip project that garnered global attention for our city. I’m committed to preserving Whitwell’s history, and as commissioner, one of the ways I can contribute is by supporting the development of the Whitwell Education and Heritage Center.
Embracing Today
During my campaign, I’ve encountered a diverse group of residents, from those whose families have lived here for generations to newcomers from various parts of the country. How can we unite everyone to foster a strong sense of community? Whitwell’s Veterans Memorial Park is an excellent venue for weekend concerts, sports tournaments, fitness activities, and even has a horse arena. We should make the most of these opportunities, which require motivation, organization, and leadership. As commissioner, I will collaborate with city leaders to enhance our community spirit.
Whitwell’s annual Labor Day parade is truly remarkable. Witnessing hundreds of people gather and seeing the impressive number of participants was extraordinary. This is a cherished event that reflects the pride of our community and is a tradition worth building upon. I will work with our council to ensure that each year’s Labor Day events are exceptional, leveraging all available resources to highlight Whitwell and its offerings.
I’m excited that the Whitwell Education and Heritage Center is sponsoring this year’s parade and has planned a fantastic day. I encourage everyone to attend and support our town and this wonderful organization.
Building Tomorrow
The Sequatchie Valley is one of the most picturesque and scenic areas in the region. While other towns in the valley are experiencing growth, Whitwell also has the potential for expansion. With industrial properties set aside for development and several vacant buildings perfect for small businesses, Whitwell can attract jobs and revenue, securing its future. The charm of Whitwell lies in its peaceful atmosphere and low cost of living, and I aim to preserve this character. My goal is to leverage opportunities for natural growth that will create jobs and benefits for our residents.
I am honored to have been elected as City Commissioner and look forward to serving the next four years!
